The Elizabeth Ely Education Foundation was established to preserve and promote Elizabeth Ely’s successful and highly effective model of education; and to support educational visionaries who are starting new schools and programs committed to making major improvements in learning through the creation of new educational models.
The Foundation's current projects include the following activities:
Research, write, publish and disseminate a book describing Elizabeth Ely's innovative principles of education including her approach to applying these principles in the schools she managed
Share Elizabeth Ely's Oral History with people interested in the origins of her educational programs and strategies
Educational Visionaries who have or are establishing schools or
programs that are consistent with the Ely principles of education by
providing consulting, mentoring, research on the effectiveness of their
specific programs, and documentation of their educational models.
ongoing findings of the Foundation's programs and research to educators
and others interested in educational improvement.
The Ely Foundation is dedicated to examining Elizabeth‘s visionary approach in order to identify and support broader implementation of key education principles and her guiding philosophy. Advances in communication techniques and vehicles offer exciting potential for increased means through which to individualize presentation of both curriculum and extracurricular study.
To that end, the Foundation plans to undertake the programs that:
Identify and evaluate the work of education visionaries
Craft and promote programs to implement this work on a broader scale
Advise, mentor and support individuals and institutions implementing visionary programs
Monitor and evaluate progress to enhance existing programs and facilitate broader expansion of their implementation
A particular source of pride is the number
of contributions received from former students and their parents who
recognize the consequential role Elizabeth played in their lives by
preparing them to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
The Foundation also is supported by generous
donations of time and talent by educators and other professionals serving
on the various committees and task forces carrying out the Foundation‘s
